#38T Gary Pettis

Oh laugh! "He even appeared on the verge of becoming a consistent hitter..." What the hell are they talking about? Pettis was a consistent hitter. Consistently awful.

Interesting that they list his position as CF and not just OF. Most baseball cards do not make the distinction.

  1. Gotta hand it to the guy, though. It ain't easy to steal 44 bases with a .285 OBP and only 458 ABs. Between him and Darrell Evans in '88, the Tigers had two regulars hitting .208 and .210. No wonder the Sox won the division that year.

  2. That's it. He's not a sucky hitter. He had stretched ligaments in both hands. Good thing those problems with his hands didn't affect him in the field.

  3. "He even appeared to be on the verge ..." That's not exactly going out on a limb.
